OUR STORY & MISSON

Rooted in the rich history of South African student movements, SPoT continues the legacy of progressive activism in the modern era.

Organisational Context & Background

Strategic Perspective on Transformation (SPoT) is a non-profit organisation rooted in the historical and ideological foundations of South Africa’s progressive student movement. It was established by former student activists and leaders affiliated with organisations such as NUSAS, AZASO, SANSCO, and SASCO, whose collective activism contributed meaningfully to South Africa’s democratic transition.

The organisation adopts an activist-campaign approach that is both complementary to and constructively critical of the work of government, state institutions, and the private sector, where transformation outcomes are assessed as inadequate, uneven, or exclusionary

The Challenge We Face

Despite South Africa’s democratic gains, structural inequality, economic exclusion, sectoral concentration of power, and uneven transformation outcomes persist, undermining inclusive development and social cohesion

The Relaunch

Following a period of organisational dormancy and governance lapse, SPoT has constituted a Relaunch Working Committee of Volunteers to restore institutional functionality, credibility, and strategic direction, culminating in a formally mandated Relaunch Conference.

  • Restore governance legitimacy through a member-mandated Relaunch Conference
  • Build an operational platform for coordinated activism
  • Activate provincial, national, and international networks
  • Lay the foundation for a sustainable organisational model
